NIGHT OWL CAMP
Attention Teenagers! Do you like staying up late and then sleeping in? If so, we have the perfect camp for you. Night Owl Camp offers a schedule which will be right up your alley. Breakfast begins at what is usually "lunch time;" lunch is served at "dinner time;" and dinner is cooked over a campfire late under the night sky. In good weather, you will be eating under the stars, bathed in the moon's glow.
Activities are varied and include challenge courses, field games, archery, night swims, night hikes, night games and worship. Illumination is provided by glow sticks, flashlights or lanterns. This camp provides a special opportunity to get to know yourself and others better, and to connect with God who is, of course, "on call" 24/7.
It is not too soon to sign up for the summer of 2017. There are Night Owl camps for middle school students as well as senior highs. Go to our Website for further information and to enroll.
The Celtic Cross
When you walk into the lobby of Heartland Center, you see an impressive wooden Celtic cross embellished with interlacing that hangs on the wall. This cross was donated by the Mound City Presbyterian Church at the time of its decommissioning.
The cross was hand-carved by a member of that congregation, Rube Dahlman, for the church in 1962. It is quite beautiful, and shows the talent of a skilled artisan. It was placed on the wall above the altar in the Mound City sanctuary. For many years, it served as an inspiration to church members and visitors, through its beauty and symbolism.
When the church made a decision to close its doors, the members agreed that they wanted this impressive cross to be donated to Heartland Presbyterian Center. It now hangs on the wall so that those entering the lobby immediately see it. And so it continues to serve as symbol and encouragement for the many Christians who come to this place. It is a meaningful representation of the ministry and mission of Heartland.
This gift is a blessing to the Center and we celebrate the talents of Rube Dahlman, who created it.
