Twenty-Five Years Together
In January, Heartland Presbyterian Center and the Presbytery of Northern Kansas will celebrate 25 years of formal partnership. While the relationship goes back much longer than that, it was in 1992 as Heartland Presbyterian Center became self-incorporated the Presbytery of Northern Kansas (PNK) was made a formal mission partner. It subsequently has had three seats on Heartland's Board of Directors, and makes an annual contribution through shared mission giving in support of the general operating budget.
In addition, the Presbytery of Northern Kansas and its members:
- pay one third of the cost of camp for every child from PNK who attends HPC,
- send many volunteers who help with camp programs and upkeep of the facilities,
- have contributed generously to capital campaigns and given sacrificially for camp scholarships and mission support.
As we celebrate this partnership, it seems providential that the Reverend Teresa Ingle, a member of the Presbytery of Northern Kansas, was elected as President of Heartland Center's Board of Directors. Rev. Ingle will serve a two-year term, and is the second board member from PNK to serve in this capacity.
We give thanks to God for the many ways the Lord has blessed hundreds of thousands of campers and retreat attendees through this special partnership.

Did You Know? HPC Has Interns!
In a commitment to powerful faith immersion experiences that form deep and life long connections in the body of Christ, Heartland offers a Camp and Youth Ministry Internship Program. This yearlong, hands-on experience gives young adults the training and education necessary to start a professional career in Christian camping or youth ministry.
The program addresses four core areas. In camp program ministries, the interns help to prepare for and then actively participate in the summer camping season. In church youth ministries, each intern is partnered with a local church to work ten hours a week with its youth ministries program. In the area of retreat ministries, the interns work with hospitality, support services and the activities program to learn about the basics of camp administration. There is also an academic component, where the interns complete a certification process and attend relevant conferences.
This year we are fortunate to have eight interns from eight different states working here at the Center. They are serving in seven area churches: John Knox Kirk, Platte City United Methodist, Village Presbyterian, Second Presbyterian, Pine Ridge, Gashland United Methodist, and Grace Covenant Presbyterian.
We appreciate the advantages that come with having interns here at the Center and in area churches. The program is mutually beneficial, and we look forward to its continued success. Hopefully, you will have the opportunity to encounter one or more of these gifted young people as they serve the camp and local congregation.
Give the Gift of Camp!
What a great gift for your child, grandchild or great-grandchild. Many Christian youth report that one of their most meaningful experiences has been participation in overnight camp. Here at Heartland Center, we are committed to providing an outstanding adventure for all who come. Now is a perfect time to invest in camp for the young people in your life!
Up to forty white, king-sized bedspreads have been donated to HPC. As we have no king-sized beds (!), these need to be cut in half lengthwise and then hemmed along the cut edges to create twin-size spreads.
If you are an individual or group who likes to sew and/or wants to help, please consider this project. We suggest that your sewing machine(s) be brought on site to do this work. We will provide a space and provide or reimburse you for thread. If you or your group are interested in volunteering to do this work, please contact Emma Acker, Hospitality Coordinator.
Visitors are saying...
We love coming to your retreat center and do appreciate all you do for our group.
We really appreciate your flexibility and hard work. Wishing you and all of the Heartland staff continued success.
I don't know how many times our family has celebrated Thanksgiving at HPC but it is definitely part of our Thanksgiving tradition. Thank you so much!!!
